Help Wanted

I have a friend out of state, who is 5 months along in her pregnancy and now has high blood pressure, so she is on bed rest. She also has a 1 year old.

Any mothers out there that can offer some ways to help and encourage her? Any other mothers that went through bed rest and baby and were blessed by someone, some gesture?

I was on bedrest with a couple of mine. I had a friend who sent me books to read. My MIL brought cross-word puzzles. I really liked the gals who brought over paper plates!! No dishes! It's tough though with you being long distance.

I bet if you go to fitpregnancy.com (I'm totally guessing that that is the website, but more than likely it is) they will have tons of ideas for her. I used to read about stuff in my fitpregnancy magazine, but I can't think of anything right now!

I went through bed rest, but it was a week before delivery and I was put in the hospital. I'll keep her in my prayers.

I was in hospital for five weeks before my third. It was easy for me to get the rest while others were caring for the elder two. The problem is her one year old! Does your friend have help with the little one?

I wish I could think of practical ways to help- I recently heard of a thing called "Supper Solutions" where you can pick out all your meals for a certain amount of time and they get it all ready for you, cut up and all, and it's done fresh, but freezable. She could do that and send hubby or some friends to pick it up and it'd probably be super easy for him to make the meals with all the ingredients handy...

Maybe someone could bring her books and activity books to do with her one year old to keep busy??

I will certainly keep her in my prayers!

I was on bedrest with #2 and #3. The most humbling and touching thing someone came and did for me was clean my house top to bottom and take my laundry, wash it, dry it, fold it and, with me instructing -- put it back in the appropriate drawers in the dressers.

I also had people take care of my girls so I could truly rest, bring meals, and come visit and play with the girls so I could have company but not have to get up.

The other thing that helped me pass the time was making the baby announcements and addressing them. It made me feel productive, but I didn't need to move to accomplish the task.

I'll be praying for your friend, too. Keep us posted as to how she's doing.

oh how hard! The poor thing. How sweet of you to try and comfort her. I love the idea of cleaning her house. When I was sick that would be the BEST gift EVER!! But since you don't live near her - I am not sure. Does she have an ipod or computer near her? Does she have a DVD player? In my sickdays movies helped a lot. You could send her music, books etc. But I am not sure about anything too specific. The Newsboys latest worship album is awesome!
